Be careful what you wish for. When hiring a salesperson, you're looking for someone with confidence, someone who has the ability to speak with anyone, a person who is optimistic and has a can-do attitude. You also probably want someone who can spin a story in a positive way (albeit ethical), right?
One of the major stumbling blocks every sales manager encounters in his/her career is dealing with a salesperson who's constantly selling them. It's important to understand this going in, and to be on the lookout for warning signs that you're being sold. Here are a few examples:
As a team:
Talk with your management team and external advisers to identify the pitfalls that may exist. Take inventory of your current team to see who is trying to sell you. And, what are they selling? If it's something that may have a negative impact on the business, try and recognize it soon and develop a game plan for overcoming these challenges.
